Left: A mile marker from the eighteenth century that sits on Governor Road by the driveway to the Penrose-Strawbridge house.  It reads "18 M TO P", meaning 18 miles to Philadelphia.  It is severely weathered.
About Us

The Horsham Preservation & Historic Association (HPHA) is dedicated to identifying, studying, preserving and protecting the historical heritage, buildings and artifacts of Horsham area.

Currently Peter and Margaret Choate serve as full time staff for HPHA. They are on-site caretakers and construction supervisors at the Penrose-Strawbridge restoration site. They are the key staff members. They have both academic and practical knowledge of historic buildings and their restoration.


OFFICERS OF HPHA

President - Steve Schneider - Member since 2004 - owner of an HVAC business, Schneider Heating and Air Conditioning. Historic house owner. 

Vice President - Toni Kistner - Member since 2005 - Works for Gwynedd Mercy College and is our archeological artifact expert.

Secretary - Margaret Choate - Duties consist of recording member and board meetings.

Treasurer - Margaret Lotter - Retired from Prudential Financial Co. Recipient of the Prudential Award for Community Volunteerism in 2003. Margaret is a Past President of the Friends of Graeme Park and currently the Treasurer of the Friends of Graeme Park. She is a member of the Horsham Historic Advisory Commission.


CONSULTANTS

Margaret Westfield, partner of Westfield Architects & Preservation Consultants.
Degree in Architecture, U of Maryland. M.A. Preservation Studies Boston U. Her
qualifications exceed the qualification standards for Historical Architects,
Architects
and Architectural Historians.
 

Herbert Levy, Registered Architect, FAIA, Herb is well respected in the historic preservation field. He has served on the board of PHMC, and more recently was president of both HABS and HAER. He is a board advisor to HPHA.


BOARD MEMBERS

Margaret Lotter, member since 1998, current Treasurer. 

George Felbin, member since 1998, Registered Architect in Pennsylvania and New Jersey since 1963. University of Pennsylvania degree in Architecture. Member of NCARB. Chairman of the Horsham Historic Advisory Commission. Historic house owner.

Margaret Choate, Founder, past president and member since 1997. - Board member since 1998. Retired Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of Corestates Bank. Summa Cum Laude graduate of Bucks County Community College in the Historic Preservation program in 1998. Member of Sigma Phi Kappa, historic preservation honor society. Member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Founding member of the Horsham Historic Advisory Board.

Peter Choate, Past president and member since 1997. University of Delaware BA in American History. He is a retired computer business systems owner and entrepreneur. He serves as Executive Director of HPHA.

Steve Schneider - A member since 2004, a historic house owner and current President.

Curt Kaller, of C. D. Kaller, Inc. and Old Philadelphia Historic Restoration Company.

Jane Douglass of Prudential, Fox & Roach Realtors
A 26-year veteran in marketing of real estate in Montgomery & Bucks Counties,
she sold some of the oldest properties in Montgomery County. Examples are the Circa 1701 ”Rose Hill” in Blue Bell and a Circa 1702 house in Upper Dublin, which was built for colonial Governor Sir William Keith’s tax collector.
She is a civil war enthusiast who has completed certification in Historic marketing & Vintage Architecture.
She is a member of the Historic Real Estate marketing program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Montgomery county Association of Realtors. Jane is also a long time member and publicity chairman of the Historical Society of Fort Washington.

Timothy Schultz - He is a local resident and graduate of the Hatboro-Horsham School District. He has a degree in Communications from Temple University. Member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Hatboro Chamber of Commerce.

Colleen MacAllister - Collen is our board member representatve from the Hatboro-Horsham School District.  She is a senior this year and is our liasion with the school district.
