1735 Barn

photo of 1735 Barn Ruins showing open front and ruins of 3 stone walls built into hillside

Foundation walls of what is believed to be the remains of a barn dating to 1735-37. This barn appears on a drawing from 1737 found with documents requesting that Governor Road be expanded from Horsham to Eureka.

About 10 yards from these ruins is a stone marker carved with “18 M to P’, which probably indicates 18 miles to Philadelphia from that point on Governor Rd. It may be an early mail delivery marker.

This barn is an example of a bank barn where the barn is actually built into a hillside or bank so that there is access to both the lower and upper levels. It is located on Governor Road which was the main road into Graeme Park.
